Please review the Radiographic Interpretation course with Bonus Mini Course BEFORE submitting your Radiographic Assessment.

Radiographic Interpretation course with Mini Course

Here are the instructions for the radiographic portion of the Live Skills Assessment:

  1. Create one video of you or a technician performing a full mouth radiographic series at your hospital.
  2. This requirement is: (Choose one)
    1. Small Dog (or Cat if you are in an all Cat practice) in 8 min or less = standard 10 views
    2. Medium Dog in 12 minutes or less = 14 views.
    3. Large dog in 15 minutes min or less = 19 views.

    (Film will not be accepted)

  3. If a tooth is not present, the area where the tooth should be must be clearly visualized.
Example: The mandibular second molar is missing on oral assessment. The space that the tooth occupies normally should be part of the caudal mandibular view.
  4. Please do not submit your Radiographic Assessment if your views do not look identical to the examples below.
  5. Once the series is completed pan the video to the template and make sure that we can see all of the radiographs in the template.
  6. So that we can review the images for diagnostic evaluation, please export the template as a high-quality .jpg.
If you do not know how to do this consult a representative of your software and they can quickly share that process (or your user manual)
  7. The radiographs must populate a 10 shot template in your software for small dog, a 14 shot template for medium dog, or a 19 shot template for large dog.
  8. The final template must clearly demonstrate all of the following points below.

Please Note: Either a cadaver head or live patient may be used. Normal dentition or near-normal dentition is required. If the patient is missing a few teeth, that is acceptable as long as that tooth is present in the opposite arcade. Also acceptable is if a patient is missing one premolar on each side but not more than one. The maxillary 4th premolar must be present on at least one side. Many small patients do not have the first and or second mandibular molar in the dog. This is acceptable as well as long as the view includes the space that the tooth would normally occupy.

Requirements:

  1. 1-2 mm of bone surrounding the apices of all teeth must be clearly visible.
  2. No significant foreshortening or elongation
  3. No significant under or overexposure
  4. All teeth must be oriented correctly in the template so that all
maxillary crowns are facing down, all mandibular crowns are facing up
  5. Orientation of the template must be as if you were looking face to face with the patient with the patient left to your right and vice versa.
Another way to look at this is the patients right mandibular and maxillary arcades are on the left half of the template and vice versa
  6. If a tooth is not present, the area where the tooth should be must be clearly visualized.
Example: The mandibular second molar is missing on oral assessment. The space that the tooth occupies normally should be part of the caudal mandibular view.

Once complete and you are confident that you have a great series that is within the time frame and clearly visible in the template

Submit the video via a link on YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or any other video platform that allows you to send a link. Do not send the actual video or a download link as it will not be reviewed. Do not require us to set up an account with service to view your video, it will not be reviewed. It has to be a link that opens when clicked and we can immediately review the video.

The best way to evaluate before submitting is to fill out a dental chart looking at the radiographs tooth by tooth just like you would for any patient. This will ensure that all teeth are present or can be evaluated appropriately for diagnosis and treatment.

As mentioned previously we strongly recommend exporting the template to a high quality .jpg so that all images can be clearly seen and evaluated. Do this with the form below. This is an example of a quality submission.

Low quality submissions that are not clearly visible will not be evaluated and resubmission will be required. This is a still image from a video after panning to the template. This is an example of a non-diagnostic submission that would not be reviewed.

Only three total submissions are allowed. Failure of this part of the skills assessment necessitates re-submission of the Part 1 skills assessment Fee no sooner than six months from the date of the third submission.

Rad submission must be submitted and accepted no less than five weeks prior to your Live Assessment date of choice.

*If an assessment does not pass twice, this will result in a six month hold before you’re eligible for your next submission.*

Once this submission is approved you are ready to take the Part 2 of the Live Skills Assessment.

*Please allow ten business days for all assessments to be reviewed*
